Flyers land first baseman in trade with Wichita club

The Schaumburg Flyers traded pitcher Cephas Howard to the Wichita Wingnuts for slugging first baseman Kelly Hunt on Tuesday.

Hunt batted .259 with 21 homers, 66 RBI and a .484 slugging percentage in 2009 for the American Association club.

In seven minor-league seasons, Hunt has a career average of .261, with 137 home runs, 477 RBI, and at least 18 home runs in each of the last 6 seasons. Hunt was originally drafted by the Detroit Tigers in 2003 out of Bowling Green State University, and won the Midwest League Championship with the West Michigan Whitecaps in 2004.

Hunt's best season came in 2007 when he hit 27 home runs and collected 77 RBI, with a .316 batting average and a .645 slugging percentage.

Howard, a right-handed pitcher, struck out 47 batters in 42.0 innings, with a 1.71 ERA for the 2009 Northern League season. Howard was originally drafted in the 37th Round of the 2007 Amateur Draft by the Los Angeles Angels.
