Probe continues into Roselle bank robbery
A Roselle man arrested Jan. 3 in connection with a convenience store robbery in Roselle will not face charges in a second robbery in which he initially was suspected.
Police say the DuPage County state's attorney's office decided evidence against Cayetano "Kenny" E. Williams, 50, in connection with a Roselle bank robbery was not sufficient enough to pursue prosecution.
Williams, however, has been charged with the robbery of Chase Bank in Hanover Park.
On Dec. 14, officials say Williams walked into the Chase Bank at 1640 W. Irving Park Road, claimed to have a handgun and handed a teller a note saying, "I'm a robber. Give me all the cash you have. Now."
Williams first was arrested in connection with the armed robbery at Quick Stop, 996 Lake St., Roselle.
Upon his arrest, FBI officials said they suspected Williams of the robbery of Roselle Bank and Trust, in which a thief made off with $958. However, after presenting evidence that included video surveillance footage, Roselle police were told of State's Attorney Joseph Birkett's decision.
Roselle Sgt. John Lawson would not comment on the decision, saying only that Williams remains a suspect.
