Aurora opens police HQAurora's new police headquarters opens for business today at 1200 East Indian Trail. Residents with police-related business, including traffic court, should report to the new facility. Officials say all police officers, civilian personnel and court employees will be prepared for business by 8 a.m. The $108.2 million, 152,000-square-foot facility replaces the department's 43-year-old complex at 350 N. River St.Ice harvesting program Visitors can step back in time to learn about ice harvesting during programs from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Jan. 21, 23, 24 and 28 at Kline Creek Farm, 1N600 County Farm Road near West Chicago. Weather permitting, staff members from the 1890s living-history farm owned by the DuPage Forest Preserve District will take to Timber Lake to demonstrate how blocks of ice are removed, packed and stored so they can last for months in an icehouse. The program is free. For details, call (630) 408-2291.Cookies for troopsCarol Stream Girl Scout Troop 42088 is collecting donations of Girl Scout cookies for military men and women deployed overseas as part of the 2010 Gift of Caring Program. Once the cookies are delivered, they are taken to Operation Care Package to be combined with other donations such as socks, candy and magazines.
