Roselle man suspected in two bank robberies
A 50-year-old Roselle man is charged with the robbery of a Hanover Park bank and is suspected of another in Roselle, the FBI announced today.
Cayetano "Kenny" E. Williams of the first block of W019 Argyle Avenue, was arrested on Sunday without incident, the FBI said. He also is charged with robbing a Roselle convenience store.
Officials said on Dec. 14 Williams robbed the Chase Bank at 1640 W. Irving Park Road in Hanover Park. The FBI said Williams passed a note to a teller, stating: "I'm a robber. Give me all the cash you have. Now." He also claimed to be carrying a handgun before driving off with $28,250. Security cameras captured the robbery.
"Fast, fast, I have a gun. I will shoot you," Williams allegedly told the teller.
FBI officials also say they suspect Williams of a Dec. 30 robbery at Roselle Bank and Trust at 1350 W. Lake St., where $958 was taken. Witnesses gave police a description that matched ones given when the Hanover Park bank was robbed, the FBI said.
Williams' capture occurred Sunday in Roselle after he was arrested in connection with the armed robbery of the Quick Stop at 996 W. Lake St. in Roselle. He was arrested, where a Roselle police detective recognized Williams from security footage taken from the bank robbery, and police later searched Williams' apartment and found a gun, the FBI said. Later that day federal authorities took custody of Williams.
Williams appeared in federal court on Wednesday before Judge Geraldine Soat Brown. He's being held without bond in Chicago and his next court date is Friday. He faces a maximum 20-year prison term.
