Barrington library temporarily evacuated
A temporarily abandoned suitcase at the Barrington Area Library caused the library to be evacuated for more than an hour and a half Thursday afternoon, police said.
The suitcase was set down outside the doors of the library, 505 N. Northwest Hwy., by a homeless man who later told police it was getting too heavy to keep carrying around. A maintenance worker noticed the suitcase and was advised to call police at about 1:20 p.m. Thursday.
A Cook County bomb disposal team was dispatched to investigate the suspicious suitcase, but the all-clear was given at 3:03 p.m., Barrington Acting Police Chief Jerry Libit said. No charges will be filed.
