Elginbull; A pair accused of stealing merchandise from the Elgin Meijer store Sunday, only to return it for a $217.60 store credit shortly thereafter, each face felony retail theft charges. They are Lisa M. Carter, 39, of the 300 block of Delaware Street, Carpentersville, and Ronald J. Carter, 44, of the 300 block of Jefferson Avenue, Elgin. Ronald Carter faces an additional charge of threatening a public official, after he told the arresting police officer's that he would rape her daughter, police said. His bond was set at $75,000, due to his prior criminal history that includes 56 arrests and 22 convictions, said Kane County Judge Bruce W. Lester. Lester set Lisa Carter's bond at $15,000. Both are due in court Jan. 13 at the Kane County Judicial Center. bull; In July someone cashed a $356.02 check from the U.S. Treasury Department that was meant for an Elgin man who now lives in Carpentersville, police said. The victim reported the incident to police on Saturday. Police reports said that the person who cashed the check used the man's traffic ticket as identification when he presented the check to a business in the 0-100 block of Clock Tower Plaza.bull; A Sanyo 9000 mobile phone valued at $130, was stolen from a store Sunday in the 800 block of Dundee Avenue. Reports said the suspect took the phone off the counter, stared at it for a moment, then ran out of the store. The suspect is described as a black man standing at 5 feet 10 inches, who was last seen wearing a green and white plaid baseball cap, a black jacket and a black backpack with a white stripe. He also wore a short haircut and white gym shoes as well as an untucked white shirt with brown trim at the shirt tail.bull; On Sunday, someone broke into a 2007 Ford Fusion parked in the 400 block of South Commonwealth Avenue and stole a radar detector valued at $200. Reports said the suspect broke open the driver's side door, then removed the radar detector, which was mounted to the windshield.Crystal Lakebull; A Saturday fire left a home on the 5200 block of Walkup Road uninhabitable, firefighters said. No one was hurt in the blaze. Firefighters arrived at the home around 1:15 p.m. to find smoke coming from the attic of the two-story building. The residents had already gotten out. Firefighters were able to get the fire under control in about 30 minutes. They believe an electrical short sparked the fire, which caused an estimated $70,000 in damage. The American Red Cross provided aid to the residents.
