New conductor to lead Spring Valley Band
The Spring Valley Concert Band, Schaumburg's adult community band, has engaged Trey Johnson as its conductor beginning this month.
Johnson has studied in the U.S. and abroad, with undergraduate studies at Texas Christian University; a BA in Music from Thomas Edison State College, Trenton, N.J. and further private study in Naples, Italy. He is currently pursuing graduate studies in brass pedagogy in Northeastern Illinois University.
In addition to the Spring Valley Concert Band, he is assistant conductor of the Wind Ensemble at Harper College, Palatine, and is a freelance horn player in the Chicago area.
Mr. Johnson began as a conductor for the Texas Christian University Community Concert Band during his undergraduate studies, and more recently served as conductor of the Round Lake Area community band.
He served for five years as a musician in the U.S. Navy, both as a horn player and ceremonial conductor/drum major. In addition to concert band work, he has been a musical theater conductor.
The Spring Valley Concert Band invites musicians who play, or have played a band instrument, to attend rehearsals on Wednesday evenings, 7:30-9:30 p.m. at the Prairie Center for the Arts, beginning Jan. 6.
The public is invited to attend its annual spring concert, "From Beatles to Broadway," 4 p.m. March 28 at the Prairie Center. Admission is $5 for adults age 18 and over; free for 17 and younger. (847) 289-4227 or svcb.net.
