Everyone wants bit of my fixed income
This is in response to your article about the projected Schaumburg village tax. On page 8 you have a comment from Brian Burke where he believes every resident and business should pay their share. I wholeheartedly agree.
Mr. Burke had the need to use the village fire department for his home and his wife. I agree each resident and business should pay for using village services. Although, I shouldn't be forced to pay for his needs and requirements just like he shouldn't be forced to pay for mine.
I'm sure he carries insurance to rebuild his home and take care of his wife's medical needs.
Mr. Fritz of Schaumburg says residents can calculate the effect of the projected tax by adding 8.1 percent to this year's tax bill. Where does Mr. Fritz suggest I come up with the additional 8.1 percent to pay the tax? I'm on a fixed income that every politician seems to want a piece of. My Social Security and pension won't increase this year. The government says there is no inflation. I wonder if they've gone shopping for groceries lately.
Cook County, school districts 54, 211, 214 and others have had ads in the Herald over the last two weeks asking for tax increases to fund their individual kingdoms. Each kingdom is chipping away at what the taxpayer is able to make.
Unemployment is up every month, salaries are going down. Few in government want to take responsibility to say stop! If folks want village services they should pay for them individually, not burden others to make up for their shortcomings.
When I was growing up my parents taught me to love God, work hard, save money, not be a burden and take responsibility for my own actions.
