District 15 should revisit bus issue
We are writing to inform the public of a decision that has been made by a District 15 employee that deliberately puts a child in harms way. Mr. Walter Doughty, director of transportation, refuses to honor a bus stop change request of local parents.
The parent's young daughter is the ONLY child picked up in the neighborhood. She has to stand all by herself every morning yards away from Hicks Road at a time when most of the neighborhood has gone to work or school. She is there each and every morning, at the same time, in the same spot, yards away from busy Hicks Road. What a target for the many sexual predators that we have living in our area.
Her parents' bus stop change request would cost neither additional money nor time to the school district. The change would involve the bus driver to make a left turn 50 feet earlier than she currently does. This change would allow for the young girl to wait for the stop in a much safer spot not visible to Hicks Road.
I guess we are supposed to sit and wait until the child is abducted. Maybe then Mr. Doughty would realize how incredibly irresponsible he is.
Mr. Doughty had two things to say in regards for the child's situation. One was to have a neighbor stand with the child at the stop until she is picked up. And number two that the recommendation made by the parents is both reasonable and rational, but that he was still not going to change the bus stop. We wonder if Mr. Doughty took any time to look into this very simple request.
