Don't become homeless on weekend

I have a suggestion for people about to become homeless - wait until Monday. Recently, my husband and I had two acquaintances who unexpectedly had become homeless literally show up on our door step.

At the time we were not in a position to take these people in, but we couldn't send them out in the cold night, could we? We decided to make them as comfortable as possible for the night and tackle the problem in the morning.

To our surprise, we found out you do not tackle these types of problems on the weekend. We exhausted every resource we could think of and pretty much got the same answer - we would have to wait until Monday.

Sure, it wasn't the end of the world and we could take them to an overnight shelter, but what would we do with them during the day? I'm not saying there isn't a lot being done for the homeless, just not on the weekends apparently.

Who knows, maybe in the future we can even help improve the system, but for now would you help me spread the word - don't become homeless on the weekend.
