Bolingbrook woman fatally shot at Oak Brook hotel

Now police looking to question her ex-husband

Oak Brook police want to question the ex-husband of the woman who was fatally shot in a hotel parking lot on Friday.

Melissa Bridgewater of Bolingbrook, who police said is the mother of two grown children, was leaving the Doubletree Hotel at 1909 Spring Road around 6:15 a.m. Friday when an unidentified person approached her vehicle and shot her, police said.

On Friday night police said they want to question Bridgewater's ex-husband, Jerry L. Hudson in connection to the shooing. Police are looking for Hudson, whose last known address is in Bolingbrook.

According to an Oak Brook police news release, Hudson, 48, made several threating statements to Bridgewater just before the homicide. Hudson also goes by the name "Shorty."

Bridgewater, 45, was a guest at the hotel before she was killed.

Police officer Mark Kozlowski said police spoke with Bridgewater's boyfriend and said he does not appear to be involved at all. Police spent much of Friday poring over Bridgewater's cell phone records.

The Doubletree Hotel declined to comment on the shooting.

Oak Brook police were called to the area of Spring and Harger roads early Friday after people reported hearing gunshots. Officers arrived to find Bridgewater in her car with a gunshot wound. She was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital where she died.

Oak Brook police are being assisted in their investigation by the DuPage County sheriff's office, the DuPage County assistant state attorney's office, and the Felony Investigative Assistance Team Major Crimes Task Force.

"This is an active investigation and Oak Brook is looking into every fact and checking every lead," Oak Brook police said.

An autopsy is scheduled for Saturday, according to the DuPage County coroner's office.

Anyone with information about Hudson should call the Oak Brook Police Department at (630) 368-8701.
