Mistaken address contributed to Wauconda shooting, police say
Two intruders shot Saturday at a Wauconda home may have confused the residence with another, police said Monday.
The intruders - a 49-year-old man and his 15-year-old son - had gone to the house on the 300 block of Indian Ridge Trail looking for another juvenile son, Wauconda Police Chief Douglas Larsson said. But the actual house they wanted was on a different block a short distance away, he said.
The father and son were shot with a small caliber handgun by one of the two homeowners after they entered the house and would not leave after repeated demands and a physical altercation.
Police couldn't say how many shots were fired. There was no one else in the home beside the couple who lives there, police said.
Officers were called to the home at 5:47 p.m. Saturday. They found the man and his son with gunshot injuries in front of the residence.
The 15-year-old boy was treated at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital near Barrington and released. The father was in critical condition Monday at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, police said.
No charges have been filed.
Wauconda police and the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force are investigating the shooting.
It was not gang or drug related, Larsson said.
