Look at real reasons for Thomson plan

There are so many good reasons why not to have the Gitmo detainees transferred to Illinois: few jobs in reality, costs to maintain, awarding American rights, security risks, and the most dangerous of all, interior jihadism. Radical Islamists employ well-known tactics in gaining public empathy, manipulating our judicial system and working effectively inside the walls.

The process gets worse when extending American rights. Consider the proceedings following the assassination of Anwar Sadat in 1981. Ultimately the key perpetrator was not prosecuted, as Quranic Law was the defense that overwhelmed the Attorney General and Supreme Court of Egypt.

If this tracks anything like the process in Egypt we will see this effort take a long expensive languishing road, from detainees classified as "enemy combatants" to making pleas for pardon based on Quranic Law or insanity, to be followed by what ... reparations? Our judicial system is reserved for citizens, and not "enemy combatants." A military tribunal is the proper system to deal with the detainees and should be followed through with swift justice.

The senators of Kansas rejected housing these detainees, the U.S. Senate voted in May of this year 90-6 (HR2346) to block funds to transfer detainees. If you believe what is going to breed inside those walls is going to stay inside those walls, think again.

I had to ask myself with so much logical information against this move, then why? It hit me. In an age of political bargaining chips and favors as in TARP, stimulus, health care, the only conclusion is that this is all about favors and has little to do with a swift dealing of detainees or about real jobs and benefits to the people of Illinois.

A so-called Centerpiece for Justice will become the Centerpiece of Everlasting Regrets.
