Suspect in Schaumburg barricade incident arrested again
A former Schaumburg man arrested last month for barricading himself in his apartment was arrested again by Des Plaines police Monday, Dec. 14, and charged with disorderly conduct and unlawful use of a weapon.
Edward S. Gonzalez, 42, now of the 4600 block of Kenilworth Drive in Rolling Meadows, was arrested at about 10:25 a.m. that day at Howard and Lee streets.
Reports said a man driving a Nissan had phoned 911 to say that Gonzalez was following him in a Ford Mustang. Des Plaines officers stopped Gonzalez and reportedly found an expandable baton and handcuffs in his car.
Gonzalez claimed to be a public safety officer for Advocate Healthcare, reports said, but is under a mandatory suspension following an incident at his former apartment in Schaumburg on Nov. 5.
Schaumburg police charged Gonzalez with disorderly conduct after he refused to exit his apartment for more than three hours when a SWAT team responded to a report of gunshots.
Disorderly conduct was the only charge filed against Gonzalez for that incident as investigators found no evidence to prove Gonzalez had fired or ever had a gun.
However, he was arrested again the following day and charged with property damage, battery and resisting a peace officer.
Gonzalez's wife of seven years told officers he had broken two internal doors and two bi-fold doors at their apartment.
The responding officer also reported that Gonzalez had pushed him in the chest and "charged" him after being questioned about the incident.
According to Des Plaines police records, Gonzalez was fired from Oakton Community College about four years ago after pointing a gun at his wife during a domestic dispute. He had also previously worked as a jail guard in Cook County.
Gonzalez's next court date for the November barricade incident is this Tuesday, Dec. 22. His next court date for the more recent incident in Des Plaines is Jan. 4.
