Winners announced in Cary light contest

The winners of the 11th annual Cary Holiday Lights contest have been announced and residents are encouraged to cruise through the community to experience the holiday spirit in its brightest form.

The five categories included: best outdoor tree; best animation; best use of light; kids favorite; and best overall. Due to the number of outstanding displays, the village added two honorable mention awards in each category.

• Best overall was awarded to the Kuovich family at 976 Chancery Lane, with honorable mention for the Kendeigh family at 860 Royal Glen Drive and the Bauer family at 322 Bryan Drive.

• Best outdoor tree went to Markham family at 340 Oriole Trail, while the Hudson family at 1024 Woodbridge Drive and the Hoppel family at 1237 Chickory Ridge Trail received honorable mentions.

• If you want to see moving decorations, drive by the Pickens family home at 383 Florine Court for the winner of the best animation. Honorable mentions went to the Sanfillipo family at 8 Chelsea Lane and the Hyde family at 914 Pin Oak Circle.

• The best lights are on the Jania family home at 540 Woodbridge Drive. Honorable mentions go to the Wells family at 830 Colleen Drive and the Walston family of 335 Alicia Drive

• Kids' favorite is at 61 Burton Ave., the Detwiller family home. The Chiapetta family at 860 Royal Glen Drive and the Nieckula family at 2 Daybreak Ridge received honorable mentions.

"It's great to see all of the village residents who take the time and make the effort to create beautiful and bright holiday displays," Mayor Tom Kierna said in a news release. "I encourage all Cary residents to take a drive through the community and see for yourself the festive displays that your neighbors have created for all of us to enjoy this holiday season."
