Haircuts for charity

Cornerstone Hair Salon at 314 W. State St. in Geneva will give $20 haircuts from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec, 14 and donate the proceeds to the Geneva Community Chest. Reservations are recommended and can be made by calling (630) 208-7899.

Free supper in Geneva

The Third Tuesday supper this week at the United Methodist Church of Geneva will feature ham, au gratin potatoes, green beans, hot fruit compote, rolls and Christmas cookies. Lighting changes in Dist. 304

Geneva School District 304 has received a $36,500 from the Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation as reimbursement for lighting projects at Harrison Street and Western Avenue elementary schools. The work was done during renovations in 2008 and 2009. More than 110 fixtures were removed, and many remaining were replaced with more energy-efficient ones.

Cantigny photo contest

Amateur photographers have until Tuesday, Dec, 15 to enter their best images in the Cantigny in Focus annual photo contest. Entries must be images from the grounds of Cantigny, the 500-acre former estate of Robert R. McCormick at 1S151 Winfield Road, Wheaton. Judges will select the best photo from each of 10 categories that include events, gardens, concerts, statues, children's activities and wildlife. An additional 10 winners will be chosen from all images submitted. The top 20 entries will be displayed starting Feb. 5, 2010, at the Cantigny Visitors Center Gallery. Sick children in need

The 49 children in Elgin and Aurora who have been diagnosed with HIV/AIDS have sent their Christmas wishes to the Open Door Clinic, which is asking for volunteers to help make those wishes come true. Visit opendoorclinic.com and click on the wreath to find a child you'd like to help, select one of their wishes and contact the clinic to let them know which child and gift you'll give by Dec. 21.
