Services set for Palatine theater founder

A memorial service has been set for Susannah Kist, the 47-year-old founder of a prominent Palatine theater company.

Services for the acting coach and music teacher to countless local youth will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Dec. 27 at First United Methodist Church of Palatine, 123 N. Plum Grove Road.

Kist died Dec. 4 after a yearlong battle with breast cancer.

Kist and her partner, Glen Jackson, founded the Wood Street Theater Company in 2001 with their original production of "Mrs. Scrooge," a show that has become a local tradition.

Kist also taught acting for the Palatine Park District, overseeing two plays a year for "Acting Up" classes of 6-9 year olds, and two more for fifth- through eighth-graders, as well as a summer musical for teens.
