Wheaton coaches should run Bears
The Chicago Bears coaching staff has come under fire for poor performance, as this will be the third straight year they do not make the playoffs. Hopefully, the Bears brass will make the necessary coaching change after this season. I am suggesting the new staff is right here in DuPage County.
The staff has its roots with the most famous Bear of them all, No. 77; all have coached at Red Grange field; they're proven winners with state championships and a college conference crown. Most important, these coaches have proven they know how to make during-the-game adjustments - something Lovie Smith and his current staff have not been able to do. These coaches have taken outmanned squads and have defeated teams that were bigger, stronger and faster.
I would have these amazingly successful coaches at Wheaton Warrenville South High School serve: John Thorne, winner of four state championships who recently took the CCIW Conference Crown at North Central College. He would serve as the offensive coordinator. Ron Muhitch, who just lead the Tigers to a state title in dramatic overtime, would serve as the Defensive Coordinator.
Coach Thorne and Coach Muhitch could round out their staff with the following successful WWS-related coaches:
Joe Wardsinski, head coach at Wheaton North, who just had a deep run into the state playoffs, and he served on the staff of past WWS teams. Jon Schewighart (my all-time favorite player) who has been an assistant coach, also helped to lead the Tigers to the 1998 championship. Tim Lester, head coach at Elmhurst College, and a record setting quarterback at Western Michigan University and at WWS. Tim Brylka, a cerebral magician at quarterback for WWS, he also has coaching experience.
What are the Bears waiting for?
