'Ask a Lawyer' free:

Adopt a dog:

Stop at Blackberry Station & Country Store in Elburn from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today to visit with available puppies and dogs for adoption. There will be a free gift for the first 25 children. Markay Dog Training will also be on site from noon to 2 p.m. to answer any questions about your four-legged family addition. Christmas on the prairie:

The 1843 Durant House Museum's Candle-Light Open House is from 2 to 6 p.m. today and Sunday. Costumed docents will welcome visitors into the prairie homestead adorned in period décor, and serve hot cider and ginger cakes. There will be music and stories. Admission is $3. Give food at 'Messiah':

A collection of food for the Northern Illinois Food Bank will take place during the performance of the Christmas portion of Handel's oratorio, "The Messiah," at the 9 and 10:30 a.m. services Sunday at Baker Memorial United Methodist Church, Third and Main streets, St. Charles.
