It's time to speak up in Schaumburg

Schaumburg homeowners WAKE UP!

I've been a homeowner in Schaumburg for 22 years. A lot of things have changed. For the most part our mayor, Al Larson, has done a pretty good job. But during lean times like now our mayor needs to learn a new word, "NO".

It is time for our residents to show up for a "Coffee with the Council" or even a City Council meeting. Don't be afraid to bring up any issue bothering you and be very passionate about your issue.

I go to these meetings and I can only guess that everybody is totally happy... mostly village officials attend these events. Where are the residents?

We are paying the highest sales taxes in the nation right now and Al wants to increase our property tax so he can continue to say YES. I've questioned the spending on the ornamental benches and brickwork, I've questioned the road median landscape changes. Are they necessary? Can we afford them? Apparently not! I was told "apparently somebody doesn't know village improvements when they see them."

It is time for the residents to come and speak their mind. At the very least show up and show you care. Speaking to the council can be intimidating. Speak the truth and hold your ground ... amazing things can happen.

There is a Village Board meeting Tuesday, Dec. 15, a hearing at 7:30 p.m. regarding the property tax hike. And the regular meeting and vote will follow at 8 p.m.

The final board meeting of the year will be Tuesday, Dec. 22, at 8 p.m. Both meetings are at the Atcher Municipal Center 101 Schaumburg Court, next to the pond on Schaumburg Road by the Village Hall.
