Suburbs offer holiday light recycling

Wheaton is just one Illinois municipality offering free holiday light recycling this winter season. Officials in Wheaton say residents can drop off their holiday lights at the local Public Works Building.

Meanwhile the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County also is offering a free holiday light recycling program, including all string lighting and extension cords.

Communities in that program include Arlington Heights, Evanston and Wilmette, among others.

Wheaton forestry superintendent Kevin Maloney says the recycling program means the old lights won't end up in landfills.
