Not lazy or clueless, just out of luck
I'm going to give Mel Corr (Fence Post, Nov. 17) the benefit of the doubt by guessing that he a) has never been hospitalized and/or b) is very wealthy because he thinks that anyone who can't pay for their health care is lazy and should rely on their family.
When I was "fully-covered", I still had out-of-pocket expenses from surgeries and cancer treatments that added up to thousands of dollars. It took us years to pay off those bills. Today, I am no longer covered as a result of my husband's job loss and my "pre-existing condition."
That doesn't make me lazy or clueless, just out of luck. I also wonder who Mr. Corr polled in order to come up with his figure of "85 percent of Americans" who are "happy with their health care."
