Cause of Schaumburg woman's death still unclear

Despite completion of an autopsy, a determination of the cause of death of a 32-year-old Schaumburg woman found burned Monday morning is not expected to be imminent.

The nature of Shefali Bhagwanjee's death, as well as whether it was the result of a crime, is expected to be determined through an ongoing police investigation in conjunction with what was learned in the autopsy, Schaumburg police Sgt. John Nebl said.

Bhagwanjee's burned body was found in an office building's parking garage at 1600 McConnor Parkway in Schaumburg at about 9:40 a.m. Monday.

The condition of the body as it was found does not alone provide a direction for the investigation, Nebl said.

"We do not have anything conclusive in any way" as to whether it was foul play, he added.

Friends of Bhagwanjee said she was born in India, was married and had two sons, a toddler and a newborn.

Friend Dimple Strantz of Virginia said she and Bhagwanjee worked together as flight attendants for Gulf Air when both were living in Bahrain.

Strantz's husband Brian described Bhagwanjee as "very quiet, very nice."

She'd moved to the U.S. around 2004 and had been working in real estate.

A neighbor in the townhouse complex where Bhagwanjee lived said police were knocking on doors and asking questions about the family Monday.

The Bhagwanjees were described as good neighbors who were polite and quiet.
