Stevenson's girls basketball squad rallied to defeat one of the top teams in the state Friday.
Michelle O'Brien sank five 3-pointers and scored 23 points, and the Patriots held Marian Catholic without a field goal in the third quarter en route to a 60-46 win at Maine West.
"The first half was a little sloppy," Stevenson coach Tom Dineen said. "We came out in the third quarter and just played outstanding team defense. Then we just finished down the stretch."
Stevenson (2-1, 2-0 at Maine West) trailed 28-22 at halftime but outscored Marian Catholic 22-5 in the third quarter, as the Spartans scored all of their points from the foul line.
Kelsey Simon added 13 points for Stevenson. The Patriots, who play Crane at 11 a.m. today at Maine West, also got 10 points from McKinley Imus. Anna Morrissey chipped in 9.
Jasmine Matthews scored 19 points, hitting three 3s, for Marian Catholic.
Bogan 49, Warren 40: At New Trier, Bogan's Lynette Holmes had 23 points, 4 rebounds, 3 steals and 3 blocked shots.
Warren (1-3) was led by Jessica Prince, who had 16 points and 8 rebounds. Morgan Garrett added 11 points and 7 boards for the Blue Devils.
Antioch 59, Elgin 30: At Geneva, Allie Anttila scored 15 points and Lauren Tiffany added 14 (two 3-pointers) for the Sequoits.
Anttila also had 3 assists and 3 steals, while Tiffany grabbed 5 rebounds. Andi Potkonjak contributed 6 points and 6 assists, and Lindsey Gofron chipped in 6 points and 6 steals. Sarah Gaborek and Jessica Ploss pulled down 6 and 5 rebounds, respectively.
Antioch (1-2) wraps up the tournament today with a 2:30 p.m. tipoff against Providence Catholic.
Providence 76, Lakes 24: At Geneva, the Eagles fell to 0-3.
