Snowman Crossing gets Bloomingdale in holiday mood
If Bloomingdale residents are feeling a little merrier these days, it's probably because holiday preparations already are in full swing at their public library.
Since Wednesday, community groups have been decorating trees at the library, 101 Fairfield Way, for the annual Snowman Crossing. The event invites organizations, such as Scout troops and fraternal organizations, to decorate trees outside the library in any theme they wish.
The trees will be unveiled Tuesday, Dec. 1, during an event that will usher in the holiday season and welcome Santa Claus.
The 21st annual Snowman Crossing and Holiday Open House will be at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday. Fourteen groups will display their trees and Santa will make his grand entrance to help light the official village tree.
Afterward, visitors can head inside the library for more winter festivities.
"It's really just a community-focused celebration that is sort of a culmination of all of our holiday events," said Shauna Porteus, Bloomingdale Library business office manager.
The celebration, which is co-sponsored by the village, attracts up to 300 people each year. Children can participate in crafts and all visitors can hear musical performances by groups like the Lake Park High School choir.
