Time for leaders to help middle class
Only a single-payer health care system such as those implemented by England, Canada, France, etc. will truly bring health care under control financially.
However, the current bill, though flawed, perhaps is the first step in that direction. I have adequate health insurance. It costs approximately $5,000 per year to cover my wife and myself, plus a 10 percent co-pay for all procedures, tests and so forth.
The costs of this plan rise each and every year, yet due to the economy, my salary has remained the same. Combined with the increase in cost in all sectors (property taxes, food, transportation, etc.), we have little left over for the extras in life. We have dropped from upper-middle class to middle class, and perhaps lower. And as retirement approaches, even though I save and invest, I'm concerned that I will not be able to provide health care.
It is time that government side with the middle class and helps us out a bit. No one on the Right complained about the billions of dollars spent on the wrong war in Iraq, yet they fight every cent that the Left wants to spend at home to help the average Joe American. Why is that?
This country is at a crossroad, and it is time for government to do the right thing. Implement a health care system that will provide quality health care at a price that every American can afford.
