Doctor bailing; can't face new health plan

Today I took my son to the doctor for his regular checkup. We'd recently changed from a bloated, expensive insurance policy to something more in line with what insurance is supposed to be ... for finance-crushing emergencies.

For a healthy family of six we went from a $1,200 monthly premium with a $5,000 deductible to a $285 monthly premium with a $10,000 deductible. Yes! The change though gave us reason to discuss fees with the doctor.

After reading in the Daily Herald so many pro-healthcare takeover letters purportedly written by nurses, I was astonished to hear my doctor announce that both he and his physician wife were laying the groundwork to return to their engineering roots should Obamacare go through.

He spoke at length about how our medical system is already severely distorted by government intrusion and over-reliance on insurance and that it will only get worse with a government takeover. He spoke of how the system will be forced to deal with the majority in the middle while the ends - sick babies and the elderly - are squeezed out. When asked how he could leave his practice behind he said, "You think I'm going to deal with all that they're going to put us through?"

There it is ... from a doctor. He and his wife will leave the field. Does anyone believe this sort of normal reaction is going to increase our access to health care? Does anyone really believe that a government takeover will cost less money? Thomas Jefferson said, "All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent." National health care is about power. It's about controlling the citizenry, not making us healthier. We must speak out. This must be stopped.
