Kaneland Knights
Coach Ernie Colombe
Last year 7-19
Postseason Lost 47-38 to Hampshire in Class 3A Burlington Central regional semifinals.
Key losses Alyssa Galvan, Katie Hatch, Sara Rose.
Top returnees Andie Strang (jr., G/F, 5-8); Emily Heimerdinger (jr., G, 5-5); Mallory Carlson (sr., F, 5-9).
Newcomers to watch Tesa Alderman (so, G); Emma Bradford (fr., F); Kelly Evers (so., C); McKinzie Mangers (so., G).
Outlook The Knights will be one of the younger teams in the area after graduating seven seniors, including Galvan's team-best 8.2 points a game just ahead of Hatch (8.0) and Rose (7.7). Colombe has been focusing on the defense in the preseason, though the Knights caught a bad break with the flu bug and have had a hard time getting a full team at practice. "We are looking to improve each day as the season goes on," Colombe said. "We have an athletic group that has a lot of heart and hustle. The girls are working hard every day in practice. We hope to compete each night in the tough Western Sun." The biggest question mark for Kaneland could be its size as the Knights probably will be smaller than most of their opponents. They will try to make up for that by outworking teams on the defensive end.
