DuPage County briefs
Eola Road interchange set:
The long-awaited Eola Road interchange at I-88 in Aurora is scheduled to open Saturday morning, according to the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority. But first, tollway, DuPage County, Naperville and Aurora officials want to celebrate the completion of the $50 million project with a 10 a.m. Friday ceremony. Once open, the interchange will be accessible only to I-PASS users. Customers paying with cash will have to use the interchanges at Farnsworth Avenue two miles to the west or Route 59 two miles to the east. The new interchange was built as part of the tollway's $6.3 billion congestion relief program.
Naperville to fix bridge:
Preliminary construction work will occur over the next month on Naperville's Jefferson Avenue bridge but it will remain open during that time. The bridge will not close until after Jan 1. as construction is slated to begin in early 2010. The bridge over the west branch of the DuPage River was built in 1962 and officials say it's deteriorating. When work is complete it will include two lanes, each wide enough for both vehicle and bicycle traffic as well as protected sidewalks.
