Thanks for stories on red-light cameras

I would like to thank Marni Pyke for her excellent follow up report on red-light cameras. It is nice to see that there are still some investigative reporters around.

By now only the most die-hard skeptic could still say that the reason for these cameras is to make our roads safer. As we now have statistics that show while cross traffic accidents go down slightly, rear end collisions caused by people abruptly stopping are greatly increased. This produces a net gain in accidents.

Also if someone else was driving your car it turns our legal system upside down in that you are presumed guilty and must prove your innocence. Hence we are left with the only real justification for these cameras, which is they are a cash-cow that literally provides millions of dollars for their manufacturers and the towns that install them.
