Environmental fair Saturday in Schaumburg
Representatives from 25 environmental groups, presentations on such topics as rising sea levels and green jobs, a look at alternative fuel and hybrid cars and even live raptors are among the highlights of the eighth annual Schaumburg-Hoffman Estates Environmental Fair.
The family-friendly fair is free and takes place 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, at Schaumburg Prairie Center for the Arts, 201 Schaumburg Court, three blocks east of Roselle Road and just south of Schaumburg Road.
Planned presentations are as follows:
• 10 a.m.: "Rising Sea Levels - Impact and Expectation," by Northern Illinois University Professor Ross Powell.
• 11 a.m.: "Green Sustainable Commercial Development," by Dan Loundry, vice president and director of Devon Bank.
• Noon: "Live Raptors: Who's Who of Owls," by Mark Spreyer, director of Stillman Nature Center.
• 1:15 p.m.: "Green Jobs: What and Where?" by John Perrecone, program manager at the U.S. EPA.
• 2:15 p.m.: "Prescription Drugs/Contaminants in our Water Supply," by Lyman Welch, program manager at the Alliance for the Great Lakes.
This year's special exhibit features alternative fuel vehicles and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources Conservation Trailer.
Literature to take home will also be available on such topics as restoration, conservation, wildlife rescue and recovery, natural resources and preservation.
The event is hosted by the village of Schaumburg's Environmental Committee and the village of Hoffman Estates' Environmental Commission, and sponsored by the Rotary Club of Schaumburg-Hoffman Estates.
