Celebrities get too much attention
In the media these days there is too much focus on celebrities and appearance. All you ever see is what club Jay-Z was at last night; or if Brangelina adopted another child. This is commendable, but it's not what we should be putting so much focus on.
Yes, there is news about the economy and global warming; but it is very small snippets. There is so much more we need to cover that we don't. For example, we could use the news to help raise awareness for breast cancer, or other diseases.
There are so many shows that focus on what is going on in the lives of celebrities. E! News, Chelsea Lately, and MTV News are some examples. These shows focus all on celebrities. They could afford to put some insight on global and economical issues into them. I do understand these are for the purpose of entertainment. But this country will have no future if this is what we stress is important in society.
As a high school student I see this is the focus of all the children around me. If it's not this, then it's friends or partying. This is because the media portrays these things as important.
At home though, I am exposed to things like the economy and global issues. I am taught to pay attention to these things and what has to be done for the better future of the United States.
The media can still talk about celebrities, but they also need to put things about important global issues into it to. It would be for the good of the future of this country and our economy.
