New Prairie Crossing board members:

Prairie Crossing Charter School in Grayslake has announced the names of three new board members. Now serving on the nine-member board are Tom Keenan, John Wylie and Dean Thorson. Under charter school operating procedure, Keenan and Wylie were selected by board members and Thorson was elected by Prairie Crossing parents. While it is a public school that receives tax money, Prairie Crossing board members are not selected by a whole community in an election. Prairie Crossing is a smaller choice school with an environmentally focused curriculum. Children may attend the school at no extra cost if they live within the boundaries of Woodland Elementary District 50 or Fremont Elementary District 79. Prairie Crossing serves children in kindergarten through eighth grade.

Farm history:

An open house will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, to raise awareness of an interactive Web site that allows residents to share knowledge of barns that once stood or are still standing. The Lake County Heritage Farm Foundation's site, lchff.org, allows anyone to update the database of Lake County's farms. Anyone with information to share is invited to the open house at the Lake County Farm Bureau office, 70 Route 45, Grayslake. Volunteers will be available to assist attendees in entering and retrieving information. About 800 barns once existed in the county. Contact Andy Blaul at (847) 223-6506 or ablaul@ameritech.net.
