Don't lean on seniors for more

Reading the recent Ellen Goodman column on why senior citizens should not get this $250 and that it should go to poor people who are raising children was more of an eye opener than my coffee.

Why would you, Ellen, first of all attack the senior citizens in this country? You say younger people are raising children and need it more. There are thousands of senior citizens raising their grandchildren. Younger people are more likely to get a much needed job, though low paying, than a senior citizen. Senior citizens outweigh the youth in much needed pricey prescriptions due to their age. Thousands lost their savings.

The most disheartening idea of your column is that you are attacking the people. Put your ideas and journalism where it is most needed. Attack the wealthy politicians that are greedy and dangerous. Are you not aware that these greedy corporations have put their address in countries like Dubai where they never have to pay taxes.

Cheney received the government contract for his company while he was a vice president. He sold vehicles that did not work in the sand, did not purchase enough military vests for our soldiers - parents and spouses were buying them out of their own pockets - and took on the catering to our soldiers and then did not provide enough food. Then Halliburton went and moved its headquarters to Dubai. So get an American contract, do not honor it, then get away without paying taxes. The taxes alone could help pay the health care in this country for all.

Do not attack the people here. Go after the greedy. Use your talent to write about them. It's a story that needs to be told over and over until something is done. Look around you, Ellen, find the real enemy. It is not us.
