Barrington's McDonnell commits to Illinois

Barrington High School senior left-handed pitcher Robby McDonnell made a verbal commitment Sunday to play baseball for the University of Illinois.

The 6-foot-1 McDonnell was a Daily Herald Cook County All-Area selection last season. He was 9-3 with a 2.10 ERA and 99 strikeouts in 71 innings as the Broncos made the Class 4A supersectional.
