Reckless driving charge in Crystal Lake crash
A Crystal Lake man was charged with crashing his sport utility vehicle into a business and at least one other car early Saturday night, seriously injuring a 9-year-old girl and her mother.
Crystal Lake Police arrested Maximino Olmedo, 54, of the 7500 block of Pingree Road, and charged him with one count of reckless driving, according to Deputy Chief Dennis Harris.
Crews from the Crystal Lake and Cary fire departments responded to the emergency call at 6 p.m. at the Country Inn Suites, 600 Tracy Trail, after Olmedo reportedly crashed a 2001 Land Rover into the hotel and struck a 2001 Ford van. Police say Olmedo lost control of the SUV after exiting Fast Eddie's Car Wash, where he is an employee.
The driver of the van, Laura Schofield, 39, of Lake in the Hills, and her daughter Ariel, 9, were hurt. Ariel Schofield was airlifted to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge where she is listed in critical but stable condition. Laura Schofield was rushed to Northern Illinois Medical Center in McHenry where she also is listed in critical but stable condition. Olmedo was not hurt, police said.
The crash remains under investigation by the Crystal Lake Police. Olmedo's bond and court information were not available Sunday.
