4-hour standoff in Schaumburg ends peacefully

A man who had barricaded himself in a Schaumburg townhouse Thursday afternoon surrendered peacefully to police officers by 6:15 p.m. in a case that ended without injuries.

Whether charges will be filed against the individual remained unknown, however, Schaumburg police Lt. Kris Provenzano said.

Officers were alerted to the situation on the 1900 block of Evening Song Court by a nearby resident who'd heard what sounded like a gunshot at about 2:30 p.m.

Police soon after confirmed that they were dealing with a barricaded subject but didn't know whether he was alone or had hostages.

That information remained unknown Thursday night as the case continued to be investigated.

The incident caused the precautionary cordoning off of a three-block radius around the townhouse, which lies just south of Golf Road between Walnut Lane and Knollwood Drive. In fact, Golf Road itself was shut down between those two streets while the incident was in progress, causing major traffic backups.

The Northern Illinois Police Alarm System's Emergency Services Team provided assistance to the Schaumburg police department until the situation was resolved.
