Tweet, tweet: Here's some sweet advice
Nobody made more news this week than Larry Johnson.
Tweeting away like a crazed canary in a cage, the Chiefs' running back managed to alienate himself from just about everybody after blasting coach Todd Haley and the team's fans on his Twitter account.
Johnson has been suspended for a game and according to some reports, won't play for the Chiefs again. So, in the spirit of Johnson's Tweetle dee and Tweetle dumbness, this column will give advice in 140 characters or less on what we see coming in the near future.
Tweet 1: Pick up Jamaal Charles, Johnson's backup. Has avg. 5.3 ypc in short 2-year career. EZ matchups with Oak, SD, Buf, Cle coming.
Tweet 2: Be careful of Kolby Smith, however. Could steal carries if Charles is ineffective.
Tweet 3: Beanie Wells turning into solid flex/low-end fantasy RB2. Cards RB has double-digit carries in last two games. Had 67 yards, TD last week.
Tweet 4: Cards coach Ken Whisenhunt says, "When (Wells) gets the hot hand ... we're going to use him more and more."
Tweet 5: Jets RB Shonn Greene is not a must-start every week. Last week an aberration.
Tweet 6: Expect Greene to get 10-14 carries per game with 40-60 yards per game. A TD here and there.
Tweet 7: With Donald Brown out, watch for Colts RB Joseph Addai to pile up big fantasy points until Brown returns in 2-3 weeks.
Tweet 8: If Niners QB Alex Smith proves himself this week, the value of Michael Crabtree and Josh Morgan will go up significantly.
Tweet 9: Matt Forte has been running behind an offensive line that invites defenders in like a Maitre D' at a restaurant. No. 29 among fantasy RBs.
Tweet 10: Forte can be benched in unfavorable matchups ... although this week he's a lock for solid points vs. Cleveland.
Tweet 11: Thanks for the tweet - um, sweet - inspiration, Larry.
Tweet 12: And thanks to the Chiefs for giving us some hope that a RB could produce for us once KC's bye week is over.
My teams: Because I picked up Cowboys WR Miles Austin, I won 108-100 in the DH experts league to improve to 6-1. My disappointing seasons continue in the other leagues, however, as I fell 107-91 in my regular league (3-4) and 56.5-55 in my unit league (1-6). All hope is not lost, however, as I'm only 1 game out of first in the regular league, and in the unit league, I am sixth in points and could still qualify (miraculously) for the playoffs if that team continues to score consistently well.
Good bets
• Texans WR Kevin Walter at Buffalo. Walter should get some extra looks with Andre Johnson banged up.
• Colts RB Joseph Addai vs. San Francisco. One Web site ranks Addai No. 18 among running backs, which absolutely baffles me. With Donald Brown out, we have him at No. 4 and expect him to come close to 100 yards and score for the sixth time in seven games.
• Cardinals defense vs. Carolina. Arizona has 8 sacks and 6 turnovers the last two weeks and faces Jake Delhomme, who is on pace for about 1,000 interceptions this season.
Bad bets
• Seahawks QB Matt Hasselbeck at Dallas. Dealing with a rib injury and after a 10-for-29, 112-yard performance at home, Hasselbeck is better left on the bench for now.
• Jets RB Shonn Greene and WR Braylon Edwards vs. Miami. Reality check: Just because Greene exploded last week against the Raiders doesn't mean he's going to do that every week. I don't see more than 50 rushing yards against a solid Dolphins D. ... Edwards has just 4 catches for 54 yards the last two games.
