Red-light camera soured man on FRG
Dear Fox River Grove police chief:
My wife and I have been residents of Lake Barrington for nearly 20 years. When we first moved here we quickly learned of Fox River Grove's notorious reputation as a speed trap town on Route 14. In that regard, I suppose the village's decision to photo-enforce the light at the intersection of Routes 22 and 14 is not surprising even though, as you are no doubt aware, various municipalities that have installed the despised devices later dismantled them due to the protests of motorists.
Some intersections arguably merit the use of such a device; the intersection of Route 22 and Route 14 does not. Fox River Grove's decision to install the device at this type of intersection further manifests the village's motivation to maximize revenue on the backs of motorists who actually facilitate the flow of traffic with an occasional "rolling stop" as they turn on red onto Route 14.
I have no doubt that the deliberations of village officials concerning installation of the device would only demonstrate the village's cynical motivation.
Because of the proximity of numerous businesses to our home, most of our purchases and shopping over the years have been in Fox River Grove. However, due to the anger generated by the village's latest decision to further enhance its reputation as a speed-trap town, we have decided to cease all purchasing of any goods or services in Fox River Grove. We will also encourage our neighbors and friends to spend their hard-earned dollars in friendlier locales.
