LWV to register voters at Arlington Hts. library

The League of Women Voters of Arlington Heights-Mount Prospect-Buffalo Grove Area will register new voters at the Arlington Heights Memorial Library, 500 N. Dunton, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, and noon-4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8.

To qualify to register, you must be a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years old by Primary Election Day on Feb. 2, 2010 (i.e., born by Feb. 2, 1992), and a resident of your precinct at least 30 days before the election.

You are required to display two pieces of identification at registration. At least one piece must have your current address.

Acceptable forms of identification in Illinois include: Illinois drivers license; Illinois State ID; employee or student ID; Social security card; birth certificate; utility bill in applicant's name; mail postmarked to the applicant.

Naturalized citizens must give the name of the court and state in which naturalization took place. Also they must give the date, or at least the month and year, of their naturalization.

Current voters can make address and name changes, too. Bring proper identification, as required by the state of Illinois. Illinois voters do not have to declare affiliation to a political party. The last day to register to vote by deputy voter registrar is Tuesday, Jan. 5. Grace period registration with voting starts Wednesday, Jan. 6. Early voting is Jan. 11-Jan. 28.

• Jan. 6-Jan. 19: Grace period registration and voting.
