St. Charles boy sleepwalks all the way to school
Kane County sheriff's deputies helped a 5-year-old boy find his way home early Sunday after he was found wandering around Anderson Elementary School near St. Charles, apparently sleepwalking.
Lt. Pat Gengler said officers were called to the school on Villa Marie Road about 1:30 a.m. after a passer-by spotted the child, who claimed his mother was inside watching a movie.
Gengler said the boy was unable to tell police where he lived, so officers took him to Delnor Hospital in Geneva and contacted school officials who identified his address a few blocks away. He said the boy's parents were asleep inside and unaware he had wandered out the back door.
"Right before he went to sleep, his mom said she talked to him about a movie night at the school," Gengler said. "When our officers got there, he said he was there to see his mom and watch a movie."
The child, dressed in pants and a T-shirt, was cold but uninjured. Gengler said it was apparently his first time sleepwalking, and his parents were "shocked" when officers took him home.
Police did not release the boy's name.
