Dean, Elgin handle Streamwood

Senior Jordan Dean led the way for Elgin's football team Saturday.

Dean broke five tackles and turned a 7-yard loss into a 24-yard touchdown run to give Elgin a 14-12 lead with 2:53 left in the third quarter. He then added his third and final TD later in the fourth quarter as Elgin defeated Streamwood 21-12 at Millennium Field.

"Jordan ran the ball real well," said Maroons coach Dave Bierman. "He was able to break some tackles and kept on moving forward."

The Maroons got on the board first after a Sabre miscue in the first quarter. Streamwood quarterback Joey Hanover attempted to pitch the ball back to Derrick King and the Maroons recovered the ball in the end zone for a safety and a 2-0 lead.

"It was (Hanover's) first game back from getting cleared," said Streamwood coach Cal Cummins. "Not sure if he got enough reps or not but he wanted to get back and play."

The Maroons then took the following free kick and went 47-yards with Dean getting his first touchdown of the day on a 1-yard run. Dean finished with 107 yards on 24 carries.

The Sabres got on the board in the second quarter when King scampered 28 yards into the end zone and cut the Elgin lead to 8-6.

"King is a good back," said Bierman. "Streamwood is good team. They played some real good teams real tough throughout the season."

Streamwood took some momentum into halftime when King scored from 5 yards out to give the Sabres a 12-8 lead at the half. King had 87 yards rushing on 11 carries for the day.

Streamwood started the third quarter with three first downs and was driving when went Dean picked off a halfback option pass attempt.

Elgin's drive stalled after 6 plays and Streamwood went three-and-out before the Maroons took the lead on the Dean TD.
