Outlook The Maroons can finish with no worse than a .500 record in Upstate Eight Conference play with a win in this Saturday matinee between District U-46 schools. Streamwood was out of last week's game with Larkin by halftime, a rarity this season for a team that has played some of the better squads in the UEC tough, at least for two quarters until depth became an issue. "I watched them play St. Charles North and quite a few teams toe-to-toe for a half," wary Elgin coach Dave Bierman said of the Sabres. "Their quarterback (Nick Pryor) does a real nice job throwing, and he runs some counters and some other plays. Their running back (sophomore Alex Morrow) runs well and they get him in out in the flat to get the ball to him. We have to do play well defensively because they present problems for you in the ways they get their guys touches." Elgin used the extra day of practice this week to work on defense, but the offense got quite a few reps in an effort to improve. "We hope it helps it all come together because we're still struggling offensively quite a bit," Bierman said. "We're hoping to play some kids and get them some time to see what they can do and keep kids fresh by rotating them through. We're hanging in there and working hard."
