Last week BG d. Hersey 21-0; Meadows d. Wheeling 36-7
Outlook The winner gets at least a share of the MSL East title in what will be an emotion-filled night at Meadows a week after the death of head coach Doug Millsaps' father William. "On their side of the football they're going to have a little bit more of an emotional lift for the game," said BG coach Jim Farrell. "We know it's going to be a tough night at the beginning." BG comes in off consecutive shutouts behind LB Zev Katz, DL Mark Zdanewicz and two-way standouts Kevin Mulligan, John Angotti and Mike Cornely and will try to contain QB Jimmy Garoppolo (1,170 yards, 12 TDs) and his receiving crew led by Tony Taibi (36 catches, 627 yards, 8 TDs). "Jimmy makes a lot of plays for them offensively buying time on his own," Farrell said. Meadows' area-leading defense (183 yards per game) fueled by DL Erick Louis-Charles and LB Colin Buscarini will try to slow Mulligan (618 yards rushing, 8 TDs), Cornely (23 catches, 376 yards, 5 TDs), Angotti and junior QB Mike Garrity (763 yards, 9 TDs). "Not only are they physically tough but they're fast and can make you miss," Doug Millsaps said. "It's always a big concern, giving up the big play, but one thing we've done a better job of is not doing that." Meadows doesn't have to worry about playoff points in its seventh straight berth as it tries to win its fourth East title under Millsaps. BG, which leads the series 13-7, likely needs to win one more to make the postseason as it tries for its first division title since 2002 and 10th overall.
