Spaghetti Night at American Legion

Elgin American Legion Post 57, 820 N. Liberty St. in Elgin, will host its popular "Second Wednesday Spaghetti Night" from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14 at the post home. These spaghetti dinners are held the second Wednesday of the month from September through May. Cost is $6, and includes spaghetti with meat and mushroom sauce, meatballs, garlic toast, and salad. Immanuel school hosts open house

On Wednesday, Oct. 14, Immanuel Lutheran School, 5 S. Van Buren in East Dundee, will open its doors for a community open house. Parents of prospective families, neighbors and interested members of the community are invited to take a look inside the preschool and kindergarten classrooms. Reservations are suggested but not required. The preschool will be open from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for tours. Meet with the teachers and tour the facilities. Information on the curriculum will be available. Children are welcome with adults. The kindergarten will be open during class times from 9 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. to allow participants to see the school in action. Catholics Returning Home offered

Have you drifted away from the Catholic Church? Are you angry with the Catholic Church or with God? Perhaps it is time to look at the issues again with the hope of healing past hurts. Oktoberfest benefits Options & Advocacy

Options & Advocacy of McHenry County will host an Oktoberfest Fundraiser from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16 at the Onion Pub & Brewery, 22221 Pepper Road in Lake Barrington. Historical society plans cemetery walk

The Dundee Township Historical Society will present its Cemetery Walk from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 18. Gather at the museum at 426 Highland, West Dundee and take a guided tour of the west cemetery where the "Spirits of Dundee" will come to life to tell their stories. Guests will have an opportunity to do a grave stone rubbing. A $5 donation is requested. Refreshments will be served. For details, call (847) 428-6996.

'Romeo and Juliet' with a twist

Janus Theatre presents William Shakespeare's classic "Romeo and Juliet" in an all-female production at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 7 p.m. Sundays from Oct. 23 to Nov. 8 at the Elgin Art Showcase, 164 Division St., Elgin. VFW Post 5915 invites you to dinner

The Carpentersville Veterans of Wars Ladies Auxiliary to Post 5915 is having a spaghetti dinner on Saturday, Oct. 17 at the post home, 301 Lake Marian Road. Everyone is welcome. Dinner will be served from 5 to 8 p.m. The dinner consists of salad bar, garlic bread, Italian sausage, homemade meatballs and spaghetti sauce and dessert which coffee, tea, or milk. Admission is $8 per person and children from age 4 to 10 eat for half price. The main portion of the proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society and the remainder will go to other community projects that the VFW supports.
