Olympic committee saved us billions
No Daley machine-backed public-funded construction job ever gets built as planned or within budget. The cost overruns for McCormick Place, Navy Pier, O'Hare Airport and Millennium Park exceed one billion dollars. And, we know who really pays for those extras.
Imagine what these "civic leaders" would have done with the $4 billion they budgeted for the Olympics.
Given their dismal track record (pun intended), a $10 billion boondoggle was very likely. So, by choosing Rio, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) saved Illinois residents from paying billions in additional future taxes.
Instead of blaming them, we should send the IOC a big thank you card.
