Fundraiser a success:
Kreger's Central Foods in Naperville raised $1,008 Friday during its breast cancer fundraiser in memory of former employee Steph Lesiecki. The shop already had raised $3,331 earlier in the week through raffles, an auction and other donations. To bid on auction items or make a donation, visit Kreger's at 605 N. Ellsworth St. Proceeds will go to the Rush University Medical Center Breast Cancer Research Fund.
Columbus Day craft:
The West Chicago City Museum will hold a free drop-in craft activity from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10. Participants will make a sailing ship in honor of Columbus Day. The Craft Saturday program at the museum, 132 Main St., is designed to teach children about local history and the world around them while creating a treasure to take home. Book lovers celebrate Chicago:
Aurora Public Library is joining with the Oswego Public Library District and Messenger Public Library of North Aurora for this year's Fox Valley Reads program, which runs until Nov. 15. This year's book selections are meant to celebrate the centennial of the Daniel Burnham Plan of Chicago and include "Devil in the White City" by Erik Larson, "Haymarket" by Martin Duberman and "The Sinking of the Eastland" by Jay Bonansinga. Fashion Week returns:
