Last week Wheeling lost to Buffalo Grove 28-0; Meadows d. Elk Grove 12-3

Outlook Rolling Meadows is looking to become playoff eligible for the seventh straight year and end Wheeling's hopes of making a third straight postseason berth. "They've consistently said they don't want to be the group that ended the streak," Meadows coach Doug Millsaps said of the third-longest run of playoff trips in MSL history. "The fun thing is our kids are actually getting better. This year they got beat up early and have continued to get better and better." Sophomore WR-DB Artie Checchin had a breakout game last week to give QB Jimmy Garoppolo another threat and bolstered the league's stingiest defense, which got another big effort from senior DL Erick Louis-Charles. The Mustangs are also getting S Jack Barry back from mono as they hope to end a five-year streak of homecoming losses to maintain at least a share of the MSL East lead. Wheeling has lost four straight and also didn't have Western Michigan-bound RB Weston Ross for much of the second half last week (ankle), but DE Mike Widmer and LB Chris Johnson did their best to keep the pressure on Buffalo Grove's offense. "Our guys are fighters and I was really impressed with the way they responded (after a 35-6 loss to Elk Grove)," said Wheeling coach Dave Dunbar. "There's no quit in them." Wheeling broke an 8-game losing streak last year in a series Meadows leads 16-9.
