Hersey hosts parent discussion on 'Kids and Drugs'
Sponsored by Parent University and the Student Assistance Program, John Hersey High School will host "Kids and Drugs: Focus on Prevention" on Wednesday, Nov. 4, at 7 p.m. Hersey is located at 1900 E. Thomas St. in Arlington Heights; the presentation will be held in the school theater.
All parents of students enrolled in District 214 schools, as well as district employees, are welcome to attend. John McGuiness and Marta McGuiness of Families and Adolescents in Recovery (F.A.I.R.) will be the keynote speakers. F.A.I.R. is an intensive outpatient and aftercare treatment program serving area teens and their families. Also included on the program are teens in recovery and parents of a recovering teen, who will offer firsthand narratives of their experiences.
The program will identify current drug trends in the community, reasons why teens use drugs and alcohol, underlying factors that contribute to substance abuse, effects of drugs on families, and resources and assistance for parents.
