18-year-old Wheaton man killed in crash
An 18-year-old Wheaton man was killed early Monday morning in a single-car crash, police said Wednesday.
Gregory M. Hoctor was driving a black 1998 Volkswagen GTI east on Durfee Road in Wheaton sometime between 3:30 and 5 a.m. when the car left the road near Durfee Court and crashed into a tree.
Police found Hoctor unconscious inside the car about 5 a.m. He was the only person in the vehicle, which was registered to someone else. Hoctor was treated at the scene by Wheaton Fire Department paramedics and taken to Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield.
Hoctor, a 2009 graduate of Wheaton Warrenville South High School, died Monday night at the hospital.
An autopsy was conducted Wednesday by the DuPage County coroner's office. The preliminary cause of death is massive traumatic head injuries, officials said. The coroner will conduct an inquest into the death.
A wake for Hoctor is planned for 4 to 8 p.m. Oct. 12 at Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., in Naperville. A funeral Mass is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Oct. 13 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 1500 Brookdale Road, Naperville. Interment will take place at Assumption Cemetery in Wheaton.
Meanwhile, Wheaton Deputy Police Chief Tom Meloni said events leading to Monday's accident are under investigation. Meloni said no additional details are available.
